Let me tell you, I have this theory that in 20 years, Eric's Trip will be held in esteem like bands such as the Monks or Neu! Once you stop for a moment, stop listening to the new Jayda Kiss or Kanye or Daft Punk or what have you, and you sit and think to yourself for a moment..."Were Eric's Trip the coolest band of the 90's?"
Then start comparing...
Are they cooler than the Vaselines?...I think so.
Are they cooler than Dinosaur Jr? You know... I think they are.
Are they cooler than Shellac? I think they are cooler that Shellac.
Are they cooler than Galaxie 500? Maybe just.
I mean, if you're a Fall fan or a Pixie fan or a Mogwai fan, big fuckin' deal. But if you're an Eric's Trip fan... that's something special, hey?
Yeah - I hear you. The 'Trip were pretty awesome, but a little too - as we say in the music journalism business - derivative to ever be considered genre greats. As far as coolness goes, they are definitely up there.
I remember seeing them play sometime in the mid-90s and Julie Doiron was, like, 8 months pregnant or something but still rockin' with her cock out.
And what happens over a decade later? MIA almost bursts on the Grammy's. And WHO gets the heroine accolade? So maybe you're right... ET is relatively forgotten now - but who knows what the kids of 2029 will say.
Yes! So good.
